Spent 2 hours searching for Fraxel, Potenza, or CO2 Laser in Hongdae? The solution varies depending on your specific skin concerns.

April 9, 2026

Hello!

I am Dr. Dong-young Kim, Director of Cleor Clinic Hongdae.

"I didn't used to worry much about pores or wrinkles,

but lately, they catch my eye every time I look in the mirror."

"I hesitate to post photos without filters now.

Ever since I felt a significant drop in my skin elasticity."

While looking into lasers for pores,

have you found yourself with tabs for Fraxel, Potenza, and CO2 laser all open at once?

The more you search, the more confusing it gets, and suddenly two hours have passed.

Cleor Hongdae will clarify everything for you.

Fraxel, Potenza, and CO2 lasers aren't just different in name.

Their operating principles, the skin concerns they address, and their recovery periods are all different.

We will explain which one is right for you in this single post.

Differences between Fraxel, Potenza, and CO2 Laser

All three share the common goal of "skin regeneration procedures,"

but their mechanisms of action differ.

  • Fraxel

It creates microscopic thermal columns only within the dermis without affecting the epidermis.

It is a non-ablative fractional laser.

Because it stimulates only the inner layers while leaving the surface intact,

the downtime is relatively short and the return to daily life is quick.

It is a consistently preferred procedure for improving elasticity and managing melasma and pigmentation.

  • U-Pulse Fractional CO2

The CO2 laser used at Cleor Hongdae,

is an ablative fractional CO2 laser.

It creates thousands of microscopic thermal columns in both the epidermis and dermis,

removing old skin while simultaneously stimulating collagen regeneration.

Based on Ultra-Pulse technology, it maintains high output

while minimizing pain and recovery time.

It is highly effective for pore reduction, acne scars, and skin texture improvement,

offering more distinct visible resurfacing effects than Fraxel.

  • Potenza

This is an RF (Radiofrequency) microneedling procedure, not a laser.

Fine needles create direct channels to the dermal layer,

delivering RF energy into them to induce collagen production.

With minimal epidermal damage, it has the shortest downtime among the three procedures,

and excels in improving melasma, blemishes, pigmentation, and restoring skin elasticity.

👉 Which procedure is right for me?

So, which procedure suits your skin condition?

  • Main concern: Pores and Scars→ U-Pulse CO2

  • Main concern: Elasticity, Sagging, and Melasma→ Potenza

  • Pigmentation + Elasticity, Minimal Downtime→ Hongdae Fraxel

  • Want to address both pores and elasticity→ Combined treatment consultation recommended

How is the procedure performed?

All three procedures are performed after applying numbing cream for 30–40 minutes,

and the actual procedure time is approximately 15–30 minutes.

  • Fraxel

There may be slight redness and heat after the procedure,

but since there is no epidermal damage, washing and makeup are often possible from the next day.

Effects are gradually felt after 2–4 weeks according to the dermal regeneration cycle,

and the cumulative effect is best when received 3–5 times at 4–6 week intervals.

  • U-Pulse CO2

From 2–3 days after the procedure, grid-shaped

fine dead skin and scabs will appear.

This is a normal sign of skin regeneration.

The key is to let them fall off naturally without forcing them.

Effects are felt relatively quickly after the dead skin sheds,

and changes in skin texture and pores can be seen from the early stages.

  • Potenza

There is slight redness and stinging immediately after the procedure,

but most of it subsides within the same day or by the next day.

With almost no epidermal damage, it offers the fastest return to daily life.

As collagen takes time to fill in, effects appear gradually after 2–4 weeks,

and typically lasts about 6 months based on 3 sessions at 4-week intervals.

⚠️ Pre- and Post-Procedure Precautions

Sun protection is the most important factor after all three procedures.

Please apply sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher thoroughly at least twice a day.

90% of pigmentation issues result from poor UV management.

Never pick at dead skin or scabs after a U-Pulse CO2 procedure.

Forcing them off can lead to new scarring.

It is recommended to pause the use of Retinol,

AHA, and BHA products for 1–2 weeks before and after the procedure.

If you have severe active acne, are pregnant, or have a keloid-prone skin type,

a consultation is mandatory before the procedure.

Folliculitis or acne may temporarily appear

after the procedure, but most cases are temporary.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. Aren't Fraxel and U-Pulse CO2 the same?

Both use the 'fractional' method of splitting the laser beam,

but the key difference is whether they affect the epidermis.

Hongdae Fraxel stimulates only the dermis without epidermal damage,

while U-Pulse CO2 induces regeneration by creating microscopic wounds in both the epidermis and dermis.

Therefore, the immediacy of effects and downtime differ.

Q. Can I receive Potenza and U-Pulse CO2 together?

Yes, they can be combined.

You can expect synergy by using Potenza to target elasticity deep in the dermis,

and U-Pulse CO2 to improve pores and skin texture

at the epidermal-dermal junction.

We recommend deciding after a consultation, as the interval and sequence must be adjusted based on your skin condition.

Q. After how many sessions will I feel the effects?

Many people notice changes in skin texture within 2–3 days

after the dead skin sheds following U-Pulse CO2.

Hongdae Fraxel and Potenza have a collagen regeneration cycle,

so effects appear gradually after 2–4 weeks.

For all three procedures, effects accumulate more significantly when repeated 3 or more times.

Q. How can I know which procedure is right for me?

If your focus is on pores and scars, U-Pulse CO2 is considered first; if it's elasticity and melasma,

Potenza and Hongdae Fraxel are prioritized.

However, since the optimal combination varies depending on your actual skin condition, downtime availability,

and the purpose of the procedure,

it is most accurate to decide after a physical skin assessment.

All three are excellent procedures when used according to their purpose.

However, specific procedures suit different skin concerns, and effects are doubled when the right combination is used.

At Cleor Clinic Hongdae, we assess your skin condition

and guide you toward the right direction for your concerns without unnecessary procedures,

so please feel free to request a consultation. 😊
